Celebrate National Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week

National Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week™ started in October 1989 as a way to celebrate the contributions of professionals in the health care food service industry. These professionals include the chefs, dietary service managers and volunteers, to name a few, who serve healthy, safe, good tasting food to our patients, residents, visitors and staff. Though they often work behind the scenes, they usually play integral roles in providing nourishment to staff and patients. Often they go above and beyond their regular duties to make sure everyone’s dietary needs are met.

This year, the event takes place from October 4-10. It is a great time to honor the dining services employees of our LivingCenters for their hard work and dedication.

Below are some suggestions patients, residents and staff at our LivingCenters can do to build community awareness and provide these oft-unsung heroes with the recognition they deserve.

National Nurses Week is held every year beginning on May 6, with National RN Recognition Day and ending on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who founded nursing as a modern profession. Growing from 11,892 nurses in 1900 to more than 3.4 million, they deserve special recognition for their dedication during this Nurses Week.

We share many holidays and life celebrations with our LivingCenter residents, but Valentine's Day is especially sweet for us because we have the joy and privilege of caring for many resident couples. This Valentine’s Day we feature eight GLC couples who share their stories of devotion, happenstance and ageless love.

We would like to recognize all of our Certified Nursing Assistants for their dedication and hard work every day. Here are a few CNAs recognized by their peers for the wonderful work they do. Read their stories in this article.
